Psalm 42 (Freu dich sehr, o meine Seele)

On behalf of the management and all employees of Johannus Orgelbouw, we wish you a happy and musical 2025. We look forward to meeting you again in the coming year.

To get straight to the point: we are starting this year with a Psalm. We regularly receive requests to offer more Psalm arrangements, and we truly appreciate your input! However, Psalm arrangements are primarily played by Dutch organists, especially within Protestant circles. Please keep in mind that the Monthly Musical Contribution is used by people all over the world, and – apart from a few well-known ones – Psalms are not widely recognized everywhere. That’s why we approach this with caution.

This month, we have chosen an internationally recognized melody. I’ve combined variations by several composers (including Jan Zwart) into a single cohesive piece. Additionally, I’ve written a chorale setting to conclude it.

As for registrations: all variations have a subdued character. Select a variety of beautiful, warm stops and enjoy the stunning harmonies.
